Last Christmas I recieved another great bonus. Part of my bonus was the Kimber Custom II pictured above. I have for years been reluctant to purchase a full sized 45ACP on my own because of the high price tag on the gun itself along with the ammunition. I have also had gun nuts tell me that the 45 is such a slow round that just about anybody would be better off with a 9mm or 40. Depending on the load configuration the 45acp will usually fire between 800 and 1000 fps. A 9mm will fire at 1000 to 1400 fps, again depending on the configuration of the cartridge.
One of those same gun nuts who happens to work at the gun counter at Cabelas told me a man can be shot several times with a 9mm and shake it off. I don’t think so! Anyways it is important to mention why Brother John M Browning (a mormon) invented the gun in the first place. During the late 1800’s the US Army was in the Philippines fighting the pesky Moros. (The same people who are responsible for the Islamic Insurgency in the Philippines today) The Calvary would ride into their strong holds on horseback armed with 38 caliber pistols. It did not take long for the Army to realize the 38 did not have the knock down power necessary to efficently neutralize the threat of these little guys with big knives. Note: The 38 back then would shoot between 900 and 1100 fps, Very compariable to the 9mm.
Long story short folks, 1\2 Mass times Velocity squared tells you all you need to know. The 45 with the right ammo with give you almost double the kenetic energy compaired to other rounds.
